Poem #9 NaPoWriMo2013 ‘

April 21, 2013

the world child

is hungry tonight,

his belly growls.

sorrowing mother

earth groans,

the world soul wails.

we, the lucky ones,

spoons in hand,

and ready to the feast

are helpless to fill

his empty bowl.

hell is a place

where the chopsticks are too long

and none will feed another-

it will take more than food

to ease this hunger.

  1. Teresa Young Says:

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leading me to yours. I like your definition of art, AND your definition of hell…

  2. thank you, Teresa- the definition of hell i had in my memory banks as a Chinese saying- that hell is ‘a place where the chopsticks are 6 feet long and no one will feed each other’-
it sprang to mind and seemed apt (tho it could, of course, be like the famous supposedly Chinese misquote about ‘ may you live in Interesting times’ being a traditional curse!)
